Boerenhol’ [Park]ing

Wagon-landscaping The Boerenhol’s [ParK]ing is an experimental garden. The main question was how to recycling form, usages and the soil of a parking to create a new public space? We must find innovative and ecological solution in a world where soils are more impermeable. The idea to remake a fertile ground from parking contributes to this debate.

At Archstoyanie Park Wagon Landscaping masterfully took advantage of natural processes. The key to establishing this sculpture park, was patient curation of the emerging pioneer vegetation. The play between the ‘empty’ surfaces and forest produce dramatic effects and offers experiential richness - various ambiences carefully populated with sculptures. Under certain circumstances, this project poses the question whether it makes more sense to design a park, spend money to build it and to maintain it. With Archstoyanie Park, building is maintaining over the course of 10 years. Definitely a remarkable example of hard core landscape architecture.

The new museum Texture needs a new temporary square pending a total remake of the environment. Studio Basta and Wagon-landscaping introduced a garden based on the QR-code of the Texture-museum. The result is a labyrinthine sea of grasses that remembers the flax-fields along the “Golden River” Leie.

The challenge was to create a new park in the chain of the parks on the banks of the River Rhône: a space for observing free nature and the open urban place. The “Urban Nature Park” proposed here reconciles public functions with the great natural quality of the site.

Not Just Library – Bathhouse Garden

Buro Harro envisioned an entirely artificial little piece of landscape with subtle humour and incredible craftsmanship. The landscape of the dutch dunes, with its vegetation, essentially acts as a small biodiversity generator. Water retention is hidden under the sand on the roof, and all the necessary technicalities are nicely put out of sight. The wooden hut gives it a relaxed, ‘holiday-ish’ mood. It is a ‘fragment’, a pocket landscape that offers more than enough clues that will transport you to a beach. The wind comes as the magic dust that makes this sandy roof garden come to life as one can be drawn into the feeling of being in the dunes … while taking a swim! Witty and smart!
