The project of renovating the public realm of Château-d’Oex was born out of the need to resurface the main street. Driven by the collective desire to improve the quality of the sidewalk (which might then catalyze improvements to the commercial and residential vitality of the street) the project’s intentions were quickly expanded to maximize the surface area of the non-vehicular dominated public space in the entire village center. In the built scheme, the sidewalk expands to a maximum, on level with the street which in turn constricts to a minimum allowing for a true shared space.
The new fountain, inspired by the riverway of the Sarine brings life to the heart of the village.
