The Small Campus

The Small Campus is an example of the ‘new working life’. Initiators Kathlijn de Booij and Floris Schoonderbeek turned this former gymnasium in the Spijkerkwartier of Arnhem into the ideal live-and-work-place. Crowded with creative businesses, architects, a yoga-school, designers, a Kleine Campus Café, and inhabited by the designer-couple themselves, this is Arnhem’s newest creative hotspot. The outside plays an important role. That’s where you can have meeting under the tree canopy or brainstorms on the flower meadow. Or stare at the clouds. Have an uninterrupted phone call in the woods or meet at one of the terraces.

You can start your days diving into the natural swimming pond and finish off with a drink in a Dutchtub.

The structure of the old schoolbuilding presents different spaces, strengthened in the design. Each space has its own vibe, inviting for different types of use, at different moments of the day, week or year. Terraces laid in concrete 30×30-pavers (typical for school yards) encircle the buildings, framed by a wooden edge and long benches. A welcoming place, that does not show all its faces and spaces at once. Where you can work as you would live.
