Landvetter is a small municipality just outside Gothenburg, Sweden. In connection with Landvetter receiving a new cultural center, MARELD developed the design of the new square next to it – Guldsmedsplatsen.
A very narrow space, surrounded by a diverse mix of buildings with different height and odd shapes, a noisy motorway and a lot of people passing to and from the nearby travel center – that was the starting point and the challenge to deal with. A continuous pavement of Swedish Offerdal slate and local Bohus granite binds the surfaces together and creates calmness. Connecting paths are clarified with terrace walls and greenery. Public art adds variety and content. In collaboration with artist Pål Svensson, we found a suitable place for his sculpture ”Together” in front of the entrance to the cultural center.
