Bio-Towers Lauchhammer

The area surrounding the bio-towers on the former coking-plant was converted to an event location. Today, the bio-towers are no longer integrated into an industrial environment, but function as detached monuments of a post-industrial landscape.

On site, two open spaces are set in a creative, complementary relation to one another:  the green section, consisting of a birch grove and the more rugged section surrounding the bio-towers. The 16 x 16 metre grid, on which bio-towers, activated sludge basins and other buildings were aligned, is conceptually addressed. The grid forms the foundation for an arrangement of new functions: The new detention basin for surface drainage fits in with this grid similar to stages and grandstands. The eastern part of the birch grove is only lightly developed and remains largely a park-like addition to the stone surroundings of the bio-towers.

Location: Lauchhammer, Brandenburg
