Nomaji is a landscape architecture, urban design and urban planning studio specializing in socially and ecologically responsible solutions. The studio was founded by four partners in 2015 and is based in Helsinki.

Nomaji’s story starts from the shores of Helsinki. In 2014-2015, a group of landscape architects came up with an idea to study and document together the marine shoreline of Helsinki, walking from the east border of the city to the west. The idea of founding the studio together emerged during these walks, after the group noticed that their values are similar, and their fields of expertise complement each other. Consequently, the shared values have been a key pillar in both the formation of Nomaji and the daily life of the office.

Our goal is holistic sustainability which starts with taking care of the environment and that produces social value. We tackle environmental challenges with a positive attitude through a creative process. Clean environment and ecological reconstruction are the goals that motivate us in our work. No matter the scale of the project, we believe it is possible to build living environment that is inspired by nature.

The strength of our team is its wide array of specialisation. Close teamwork, an extensive network of partners and interaction form the basis of our work. In the future, our objective is to further complement and extend the expertise in order to find solutions for challenging environmental issues. Even though our values are soft, we utilise our cutting-edge knowledge and expertise in order to advance matters that are considered to be important.

BLUE

Blue network design is strongly linked to climate change. Our goal is to maintain and increase the resilience of the landscape and cities, i.e. the ability to adapt to changing conditions. The relationship of the cities to the blue network can be seen, for example, in stormwater management and in the quality of surface water. We specialize in designing climate-resistant shorelines and resilient urban waterfronts and, in utilising water as an amenity in various contexts.

GREEN

We have a strong vision of landscape-based land use planning and expertise in living infrastructure design which are our starting points to reconcile built natural environments. We use nature-based solutions to provide habitats both for humans and other species. Northern nature is our source of inspiration. We interpret it in different ways in constructed environment, utilizing dynamic vegetation and biotope-based design.

COMMUNITY

We design environments that support overall wellbeing, health and activity. We design for the needs of communities and involve customers into the design process through a collaborative approach. Outdoor learning environments are one of our areas of expertise. The quality of the outdoor space has a significant impact on people´s physical activity and health.

FUTURE

Climate change and biodiversity loss are huge challenges that we are responding to by developing design practices and methods. In addition to expertise, we offer bold insights and practical solutions. We base our work on the latest research and we invest in continuous competence development and environmental impact assessment throughout the design process. By illustrating information and solutions, complex entities can be communicated in an understandable way.

The publication fee covers the technical expenses of composing the presentation of the submitted material and uploading it on Landezine homepage. Manufacturers that submit the material to Landezine to be published are responsible for the truthfulness of the provided credits and the digital material submitted. If any dispute regarding the submitted digital material or credits of the project should happen, Landezine reserves the right to remove such post without refund.

The Right to Remove Published Materials
Landezine reserves the right to remove without a refund or reject any material if in Landezine’s opinion the content is inaccurate, misleading, untruthful or could harm Landezine’s reputation.

Modifications
