Carve exhibits Van Beuningenplein in Florence

Our widely-known project, Van Beuningenplein, was featured in the exhibition “Piazze: Fenomenologie dell’inatteso” (Squares: Phenomenologies of the Unexpected) held at Manifattura Tabacchi in Florence, Italy in 2022.

The exhibition is a collection of contemporary urban surfaces curated by Orizzontale Architecture, which selected the displayed projects based on their ability to represent dynamic grounds for new forms of collective living.

Van Beuningenplein, inaugurated in 2011, has stood the test of time and had -and still has- a significant impact on the public life of the neighbourhood, strengthening social cohesion.
Its enduring popularity is likely due to its ability to adapt to the changing needs and desires of users. People spontaneously determine the programmatic purpose of the space at any given moment. Used as soccer or basket courts, ice skating during winter or water play in the summer, the multi-use sport and play zones overlap one another creating a unique and lively urban square.
We are proud that Van Beuningenplein still continues to inspire interest around the world.
